CUPE Local 3904 was proud to participate in yesterday’s rally to mark the start of the CUPE Local 233 strike.
This local of about 100 members is responsible for custodial, groundskeeping, and maintenance duties at TMU. They’re fighting for improved collective bargaining rights over pensions and for fair wage increases. Since we’ll be bargaining next year with the same university administration, it’s crucial for us to show our support!
In addition to our in-person presence, we’re working behind the scenes with our labour and student union coalition partners to support our colleagues. CUPE National highlighted this in a recent press release, and we’d like to thank our members for their ongoing support too.
In the meantime, we’d like to remind members that our local is not on strike and that we must continue working. That said, we also must not take on the duties of striking CUPE Local 233 members. For example, an exam invigilator should not be asked to set up desks or clean classrooms. Other duties could be unsafe.
If asked to take on CUPE Local 233 duties, please contact your Unit VP immediately for advice and support:
Unit 1: Kelly Train, email@example.com
Unit 2: Rob Denning, firstname.lastname@example.org
Unit 3: Michael Fraschetti, email@example.com
All other inquiries: firstname.lastname@example.org
As we receive more information from CUPE 233, we’ll share it with you. We’ll also plan more activities to show solidarity while still ensuring the business of our own local continues, including our upcoming AGM.
