Hi Everyone,

REMINDER:  MATCHING RRSP PLAN FROM TORONTO METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY – CONTACT HR PENSIONS AND BENEFITS DIRECTLY

Now that the term is starting, we want to encourage all Unit 1 members (who have not previously done so) to enroll in the Matching RRSP that is offered by Ryerson University.  This is one of the benefits that your Unit 1 bargaining team has negotiated on your behalf.  When you take advantage of this benefit, you are able to obtain greater monies from the employer through their matching funds contribution

Here’s how it works:

The Matching RRSP allows for Unit 1 members to contribute up to 6 percent of their Unit 1 wages.  These monies are taken out of each bi-weekly pay (as will be shown on your bi-weekly pay stub).

The university will match your contribution dollar for dollar up to the 6 percent (you will also see this noted on your bi-weekly pay stub).

You get to declare the total amount (your contribution and the university’s contribution) towards your RRSP contribution annually.

When you enroll, Human Resources will provide you with a package from Great West Life from which you get to choose, from the investments offered, how you would like these funds invested – your contribution and the university’s contribution.

You will also receive a statement from Great West Life twice a year showing the performance of your own and the university’s investment contribution on your behalf.  This statement usually comes out after June 30th and December 31st.  You should receive these statements in the mail from Great West Life directly in late July/early August and late January/early February.

Regardless as to whether you work at Ryerson as a Unit 1 Contract Lecturer for one term or thirty-five years, both your own contribution and the university’s contribution are yours!  You can walk away with this money at any time.  Or you can leave it in the fund to grow until you are ready to retire.

If you previously enrolled for the Matching RRSP funds, make sure you check your pay stubs to ensure that you have remained enrolled.

Human Resources would like to point out that there is no retro activity for matching. Please complete the form as soon as possible. In addition, Human Resources would like to note that the matching funds will be deducted from your next pay, once it is returned prior to the payroll deadline.
