CE Contract Lecturers

HOW MUCH EXTRA STUDENT PAY DO WE RECEIVE AND WHEN DO WE GET PAID THIS AMOUNT?

CUPE Local 3904’s Unit 2 Bargaining Committee fought hard against management to maintain class size limits. The Unit 2 Collective Agreement designates that the Contract Lecturer is to be paid $80 for each additional student over the class size limit.

Extra student pay is paid in one lump sum at the end of the semester through your bi-weekly pay. Continuing Education at Ryerson University generally sends out an email notifying all eligible Unit 2 members of the pay date they can expect to receive this lump sum.

IF I HAVE A COMPLAINT, WHAT DO I DO?

If something in your workplace is happening that seems unfair to you, contact your unit-2 Chief Steward and/or any of the members of the CUPE Local 3904 Executive. Your Chief Steward or other Executive Officers will be able to discuss, assess the situation and help you deal with it in the most efficient and appropriate manner. Sometimes intervention other than a grievance may be more effective and therefore used.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR “OUT OF SCOPE WORK”?

The Program Director, in collaboration with the Academic Coordinator and the Continuing Education Contract Lecturer shall agree on the type of participation required and the amount of time needed to complete such activity(ies). Such an agreement shall be confirmed by the Program Director. The Pre-Approval Request for Additional Time Form has been created and published in Chang School CECL Bulletin in fall 2019.

DO I GET COMPENSATION FOR EXTRA JOB THAT I DO OUT OF THE SCOPE OF WORK?

Continuing Education Contract Lecturers may, from time to time, be required to participate in and/or complete specific activities related to their duties which have been scheduled beyond the terminal date of their appointment (e.g. participation in student appeals, etc.). In such circumstances, the Continuing Education Contract Lecturer shall be paid $ 100.00 per hour for the agreed upon activities. The Continuing Education Contract Lecturer will be paid a minimum of two (2) hours or the amount of time required to carry out the agreed upon activities, whichever is greater. 

WHEN AND HOW TO APPLY FOR PROFESSIONAL EXPENSE REIMBURSMENT FUND?

Continuing Education Lecturers are invited to apply for the Unit 2 Professional Expense Reimbursement Fund (PERF) during the semester in which they hold at least one course appointment. A maximum number of awards of $250.00 will be awarded in each of the three semesters: Fall, Spring/Summer and Winter. Funds will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis. WHEN AND HOW TO APPLY FOR HEALTH BENEFIT FUND?

Continuing Education Lecturers who have at least one teaching contract during the academic year (Fall, Spring/Summer, or Winter), may apply for the health benefit fund during the semester in which they hold a Unit 2 CE contract. The Benefit Fund is on a first-come first- serve basis, you are encouraged to apply early during the semester in which you hold a Unit 2 CE Contract.
