Once the exam schedule is available, each Department is responsible for posting Exam Invigilator positions where there are insufficient Academic Assistants to fulfill the student-invigilator ratio per course and section, or where there are no Academic Assistants currently employed for the course and section. Exam Invigilator job postings must be posted by each Department where there is a need identified. For information on the exact location and the date of Exam Invigilation job postings, please contact the specific Department directly by emailing their Department Assistant.

Each Department is required to post their Academic Assistant job postings through eHR. For information on the Department job postings, please contact the specific department directly by emailing their Department Assistant.

Decisions about how many Academic Assistant positions will be offered and the hours of these jobs are not identified by the different departments until prior to the beginning of the term or during the first week of the term. The union encourages Unit 3 members to keep checking the different departmental postings at least once a week for ten weeks leading up to classes commencing, as well as once classes begin each semester, and several weeks subsequent to classes beginning. Each Department is required to post Academic Assistant positions for five working days in the weeks leading up to classes commencing and in the first week of the term. Each position vacancy that is posted subsequent to the first week of the semester is required to be posted for three working days. Information regarding job postings and reminders is required to be circulated through the YSGS Graduate Newsletter.

Unit 3 seniority points can be found in the eHR portal.

Unit 3 Graduate and Teaching Assistants lose their seniority points if they do not hold a Unit 3 appointment for three (3) consecutive semesters during which time there is no employment relationship with the university.

Unit 3 Graduate and Teaching Assistants accrue one (1) seniority point for each semester that they hold a Unit 3 appointment.

Each Department normally assigns a certain number of positions for incoming graduate students. Please contact your department for details. As well, first year graduate students have priority of appointment for any work posted through eHR.
